The 2024 Muskegon Community College (MCC) Lecture Series continues September 25, 2024, at 6:00 PM in Room 1300, as professor Dr. Kevin Timpe presents, “Disability Justice and Civil Rights.”  The event is free and open to the public.

During the lecture, Dr. Time will explore the similarities and differences between the civil rights movement and disability rights movement. While many students at MCC know about the civil rights movement, few are well versed about the work towards disability justice.

“Through Muskegon Community College’s lecture series, we create a platform where students and the community come together to explore critical issues and engage in transformative discussions,” said MCC Philosophy Professor, Dr. Andy Wible. “It’s in these thoughtful exchanges that we cultivate a deeper understanding and inspire meaningful change.”

Kevin Timpe is the William H. Jellema Chair in Christian Philosophy at Calvin College. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Saint Louis University in 2004. His primary research interests’ range across the metaphysics of free will, philosophy of disability, virtue theory, and philosophical theology. He has published nine books, including Disability and Inclusive Community, The Routledge Companion to Free Will, Virtues and their Vices, and Free Will in Philosophical Theology. In addition, he’s published over 50 journal articles and book chapters.
