Daniel joined the Muskegon Community College family as the institution’s Communications Manager in October of 2023. Previously, Daniel was a multi-award winning journalist for NPR Grand Rapids affiliate, WGVU News. Covering a wide range of topics including local, state and national politics, environmental concerns surrounding the Great Lakes, civil unrest, and the revitalization of Muskegon’s downtown corridor, Daniel’s reporting was consistently recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Michigan Associated Press for its journalistic excellence.
Daniel holds a master of science in communications degree from Grand Valley State University and a journalism/mass media bachelor degree from the University of Missouri, KC., where he was selected as the program’s Scripps Howard Fellowship Recipient. He immediately went to work at Kansas City Public Television’s Hale Center for Journalism, covering topics including paycheck lender scams, union disputes, and unjustified police shootings.
Prior to his career in journalism and communications, Daniel was a professional musical theater actor in New York City, Chicago, St. Louis, Ft. Lauderdale, and Kansas City. He is also an improvisational comedian and alumnus of The Improv Olympic (IO) in Chicago, Illinois., Comedy Sportz! in St. Louis, Missouri, and often teaches improv comedy student workshops during the summer months.
Born and raised in Kansas City, Daniel met his beautiful wife, Mandy, a West Michigan native, in KC over ten years ago. After getting married, they relocated to Grand Rapids, and currently live in The Village of Fruitport with their three kiddos. He believes strongly in MCC’s mission of not only providing a first-rate education to everyone that walks through its doors, but also eliminating the barriers that keep many on the Lakeshore from realizing their full academic potential. To be a part of this incredible and important work is an honor Daniel does not take lightly. Go Jayhawks!

- Hometown: Manistee, Michigan
- Professional Experience: Former solo trumpet with the University of Michigan Marching Band, Basketball and Hockey Bands and later Graduate Assistant Conductor with the band and conductor of the U of M Hockey Band, Fanfare Band and co-founder of The Women’s Basketball Band. As soloist he soloed at regularly with the bands including the Bluebonnet Bowl and NFL Super Bowl XVI. As Graduate Assistant Conductor he regularly conducted the U of M Marching Band including performances at the Rose Bowl. He spent Eighteen years as Professor of Music and Chair of Arts and Humanities at West Shore Community College, Scottville, Michigan and maintains a role as Music Director at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ludington, MI. He has studied conducting with Elizabeth Green, H. Robert Reynolds, Carl St. Clair, Jerry Junkin and Donald Lewsader and trumpet performance with Clifford Lilliya, Ramone Parcells and Donald Green. He has been named to “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” five times. Mr. Meyers is active as a guest conductor, lecturer, clinician, adjudicator, music arranger and performer throughout the state of Michigan. He is married to Melissa D. Meyers director of orchestra and chair of the music department at the Grand Haven Public Schools, Grand Haven, MI. The Meyers’ reside in Norton Shores with their daughters Danielle, Ariana and Elaina.
