I’m trained and certified in a variety of interventions that focus on the integration of counseling, therapy, and teaching that support the development of wellness habits, emotional stability, and academic preparedness. Prior to beginning my professional journey in higher education with MCC as an Enrollment Services Representative, Adjunct Instructor, and Faculty Counselor. I worked within the K-12 sector as a long term Secondary Education substitute teacher, 21st CCLC Alternative Education After School Program Site Coordinator, Student Success Interventionist, Coach, School Counselor, and Assistant Program Director for Muskegon Public Schools 21st CCLC After School Programs.

- Professional Experience: Heather was a previous adjunct instructor at MCC for several years and began as a full-time instructor in January 2013. She has clinical experience in oncology, med-surg, ER, and critical care. She also concurrently works one day per week as a staff nurse in critical care. She holds a current Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License and is trauma nursing certified.

- Professional Experience: I was a tenured faculty (2016 – 2022) and department chair (2020 – 2022) at Truckee Meadows Community College, Reno, NV before coming to MCC (2022). I was awarded ACCCESS fellowship (2017-2018) by AMATYC. I volunteered for the Northern Nevada Math Club as their ARML coach and contest writer (2017 – 2022), board member (2017 – 2022), and board president (2019 – 2022).

- My husband and I are avid beekeepers. We keep about 20 hives and have about a metric ton of honey every year. We turn them into delicious meads.

- Professional Experience: I enrolled at The University of Michigan intending to become a genetic engineer. My work study job at a campus preschool changed everything; I quickly realized that education was my calling and changed my major. Over the past 20 years I have worked with students of all ages from toddler to adult and can easily say that college is a great fit. I love working with students at MCC.
