WHY FRENCH?
French is one of the world languages used on five continents in more than 40 countries. It is as near to us as Canada, where French is one of the two official languages. Anyone planning on going into business, the arts or many other fields may find French useful. Anyone who enjoys travelling to Canada, Europe, Africa or even to several islands in the Pacific or Caribbean could use French. French also helps to improve English skills since over 40% of our vocabulary comes from French as do parts of the grammatical structure of English. Studying French helps to develop a more global perspective. Not only is the language different, but the cultures of French-speaking nations are often quite different from what we are used to. Knowing and appreciating this helps bring us closer together.
