WHY URBAN FOREST MANAGEMENT?
Muskegon Community College and Michigan State University – Institute of Agricultural Technology have joined efforts to simplify how you can gain the training and education you need to work in the exciting industry of Urban Forest Management. Michigan will have over 10,000 job openings in the next ten years related to the urban forest industry.
Students can earn an MSU certificate while also working towards an associate degree. Students take at least 25 credits from MCC that are recognized by MSU toward completion of a certificate, thus significantly lowering the overall program cost to students.

ENROLLMENT PROCESS
- Apply for enrollment at MSU’s Institute of Agricultural Technology. Recommended GPA of 2.0 or above. Go to http://www.iat.msu.edu/ and click on the “Apply” link in the middle of the home page. Please note the $65 application fee or complete the fee Waiver. Request transcripts to be sent at the time of application to IAT.
- Send official transcripts from high school or any other colleges attended. Transcripts must be sent to MSU IAT: Institute of Agricultural Technology Michigan State University 446 Circle Drive, Room 120, East Lansing, MI 48824
- Apply for enrollment at MCC: https://www.muskegoncc.edu Click on the Apply Now button at the top right corner.
- Take MCC Accuplacer test – If your SAT score does meet the requirements, you are required to take the Course Placement Test in order to determine which Math and English courses you can take at MCC.
- Visit the Testing Center to take the test. To see the Testing Center’s hours and availability and practice questions, please visit: https://www.muskegoncc.edu/testing/mcc-placement-test/
- Apply for FAFSA online: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ Complete all financial aid requirements through MSU’s Office of Financial Aid. NOTE: Your financial aid package will be handled through MSU; MSU’s school code is 002290. Federal regulations require that you must have a high school diploma or GED to apply for financial aid.
When notified of acceptance at MSU, set up your MSU email account. - Make an appointment with Matt Bernia, MSU IAT Coordinator at MCC, to discuss your education goals, plan MSU/MCC classes; learn how to set up MSU accounts and how to register for classes at berniama@msu.edu. You can visit Matt in Room 1313C of the MCC Stevenson Center.
