WHY DANCE?
MCC is thrilled to once again offer Dance as an area of study, reaffirming its commitment to providing a well-rounded education that celebrates the performing arts. Dance is not just a physical activity; it is a powerful medium for expression, creativity, and personal growth. Through dance instruction, students develop self-confidence, discipline, and a deeper connection to their own physicality; empowering them both on and off the dance floor.
At Muskegon Community College, we believe that dance is for everyone. Regardless of prior experience, our inclusive classes are designed to bring out each student’s unique potential while simultaneously celebrating their growth along the way.
The curriculum includes classes for both beginners and experienced dancers alike, currently offering training in contemporary dance and ballet. Students also delve into theoretical aspects of the art, exploring dance history, anatomy, and choreographic design to enhance their understanding and skills.
Meanwhile, dance education has been shown to foster critical thinking, emotional resilience, and cultural awareness—key skills essential for success in any field a student will enter after graduation.
Performance opportunities may include participation in MCC theater and musical theater productions, community outreach performances, end-of-semester “Studio on Stage” showcases, or dance concerts at the Overbrook Theater.
