MCC Lecture Series Presents: Pecha Kucha Night: A Celebration of stories
Wednesday, January 24, 2024
Muskegon Community College Lecture Series continues Thursday, January 25th, 2024, at 6:00 PM with “Pecha Kucha.”
A Japanese term meaning “chit-chat,” Pecha Kucha is a storytelling format where presenters share their narratives through 20 slides, each displayed for 20 seconds. This rapid-paced presentation style encourages speakers to “talk less,” and “show more,” fostering a more concise and impactful way of sharing one’s story.
Originally conceived in Tokyo in 2003 by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, Pecha Kucha Nights were originally designed as a platform for young artists to showcase their work, exchange ideas, and build a creative community. Over the years, this concept has transcended the design field, evolving into a global phenomenon embraced by various disciplines.
The event will feature a lineup of 9 distinguished speakers, including MCC President, Dr. John Selmon, as well as a wide array of MCC faculty from art, anthropology, nursing, English, and theater, and community members discussing public art, childbirth, and a just society who will share insights into their journeys and experiences.
The event is free and open to the public.
