WHY PHYSICS?

Do you want to understand why things work the way they do? Do you want to develop problem solving and analytical skills? Then study physics. Physics is the most basic and fundamental science; the backbone of all other sciences. As a whole, physics is concerned with matter, energy, and how they interact and transform. The principles of physics are the foundation upon which all other scientific knowledge is built. Everything from nanomachines, cell phones, lasers, to galaxies can be understood and described using physics. While learning about the organizing principles of the Universe, physics students are challenged to expand their quantitative, reasoning, and analytical skills in ways that make them even more valuable to employers. Physics is interesting, useful, and challenging. Physics is the search for the common threads that connect seemingly disparate phenomena. Students of physics learn to analyze a problem regardless of context and can apply this inventive thinking to any field. Being THE fundamental science, Physics is the route to many careers: such as particle physicist, TV producer, Alzheimer researcher, weather predictor, Wall Street analyst, astrophysicist, or engineer. Some of the benefits of studying physics at MCC include small class sizes, affordability, focused attention, and new facilities with updated labs and classrooms. MCC offers algebra-based and calculus-based physics courses
