Friday, May 3, 2024
Muskegon Community College (MCC) has announced the return of “STEAM Along the Lakeshore,” a free family event promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning in the community. The event will take place on Saturday, May 4th, in downtown Muskegon.
STEAM Along the Lakeshore offers a day of interactive and educational activities at various locations including Hackley Park, Hackley Public Library, Lakeshore Fab Lab of MCC, Muskegon Museum of Art, and Muskegon Museum of History and Science. Participants will embark on a journey through these venues, engaging in different STEAM activities tailored for all ages.
The first 750 student participants will receive exclusive STEAM swag bags containing a take-home STEAM activity kit, a commemorative t-shirt, and a passport to collect stamps for completing activities at each location. These passports can be exchanged for raffle prizes and gifts provided by event sponsors.
Activities will kick off simultaneously at all locations at 10:00am. Participants can collect their swag bags and passports at Hackley Park.
“Muskegon Community College is committed to providing outstanding education in STEAM fields,” said Dan Rinsema-Sybenga, MCC’s Dean of Academic Affairs. “STEAM Along the Lakeshore is not only a fun family event but also serves to inspire the next generation of MCC students towards rewarding careers in STEAM.”
The event is made possible by the generous support of sponsors including the Howmet Aerospace Foundation, Gentex Corporation, Salon 297, Scherdel Sales and Technology, Hines Corporation, MiSTEM Network of Greater West Michigan Region, Trace Analytical Labs, Tabono Law, and The Mart Dock.
