Muskegon Community College (MCC) is excited to announce a new partnership with Walker-Miller Energy Services and DTE Energy, following the successful completion of a six-week intensive training course. The program, titled “DTE Energy Efficiency Academy Muskegon Upskilled Training Program powered by Walker-Miller Energy Services,” has equipped ten graduates with the esteemed BPI Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) certification.
At the graduation ceremony on September 28, 2024, graduates showcased their skills through a blower door test and assessments of fiberglass and cellulose insulation.
“We are incredibly proud of our graduates,” said MCC Dean of Academic Affairs Dan Rinsema-Sybenga. “Their dedication has not only earned them a valuable certification but also paved the way for brighter futures. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to DTE and Walker-Miller Energy Services for their vital partnership in delivering this training to Muskegon.”
According to their website, this advanced workforce development program offers educational opportunities for individuals already working in the HVAC and weatherization sectors. Hosted by MCC, the paid hybrid program prepares participants to obtain Building Performance Institute (BPI) envelope certifications while providing hands-on experience. This initiative aims to address the growing demand for skilled trades in the local area, fostering economic growth and enhancing career prospects in the energy efficiency sector.
With a focus on advanced learning and upskilling, the program equips graduates with the knowledge needed to take the energy auditor exam. Graduates can anticipate expanding into roles such as crew leaders, energy assessors, and project coordinators, among other opportunities within the clean energy field. DTE’s Energy Efficiency Academy is part of a series of workforce development initiatives designed to attract new talent to the clean energy industry
