MCC Outpaces Commencement Participation for Third Straight Year

Wednesday, May 7, 2025

For the third year in a row, Muskegon Community College (MCC) set a new record for student participation in commencement ceremonies.

In 2023, 240 students took part in the celebration. That number climbed to 267 in 2024, and in 2025, MCC reached a new high with 308 participants. This marks a notable 28 percent increase in participation since 2023. Although the official graduate count for this year is still being finalized, Muskegon Community College projects that approximately 700 students will earn their degrees. This represents a slight increase from 2024, when the college officially celebrated 683 graduates.

“This steady increase in commencement participation likely points to students feeling more engaged and connected to the college experience,” said Dr. Steve Sanocki, Director of Student Success. “MCC’s efforts to encourage student success are paying off, students are bringing out their best, and the commencement numbers show it.”

The commencement ceremony marks the 99th year of operation for Muskegon Community College. “For a century, MCC has helped shape the future of the Lakeshore. It’s a legacy we’re deeply proud of,” said MCC President, Dr. John Selmon. “MCC graduates are the ones who will carry the legacy of this great college into a new era.”

Muskegon Community College’s 2025 Commencement Ceremony will be themed around the new “Bring It Out” slogan. Launched in March 2025, the slogan underscores MCC’s ongoing commitment to help students unleash their talents, skills, desires, dreams, and futures through distinguished quality and affordability.
