MCC Hosting Free Screening of Climate Change Documentary
Tuesday, November 12, 2024
Muskegon Community College (MCC) invites the community to a special free screening of Climate Sisu: The Stories of Climate Resilience from Northern Michigan on Thursday, November 14th, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The event will be held at MCC’s Main Campus in Room 2323-2331 (221 S. Quarterline Rd., Muskegon, Michigan).
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Dr. Elena Lioubimtseva, Professor of Geography and Sustainable Planning at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), who is also a writer and producer of the documentary. Dr. Lioubimtseva will kick off the event with a brief presentation before the film, and a Q&A session will follow the screening, allowing attendees to engage with her and the other participants about the film’s message of climate action and resilience.
“Working as a writer and film producer for Climate Sisu and being a part of the cast was a truly transformative experience for me,” said Dr. Lioubimtseva. “This documentary is a testament to the resilience and determination of communities working together to face climate challenges head-on.”
Climate Sisu is the first documentary to address the urgent issue of climate change and community resilience specifically within Michigan. Through personal stories shared by environmental activists, climate scientists, farmers, winemakers, urban planners, students, and educators, the documentary offers an optimistic yet realistic look at how local communities are responding to climate challenges. From the campus of GVSU to rural communities “Up North,” the film captures efforts to find sustainable solutions to climate change, demonstrating the power of local knowledge and action.
