Muskegon Community College (MCC) is proud to announce its upcoming production of As You Like It, a vibrant and inclusive musical adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic comedy. With music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Shaina Taub and adaptation by Laurie Woolery, the production will run from March 27- March 30, 2025, at MCC’s Overbrook Theater, located at 221 S. Quarterline Rd.

As You Like It embodies many classic Shakespearean trademarks: clever gender disguises, themes of exile, and a whirlwind of romance unfolding in an enchanted forest, while Woolery and Taub’s adaptation naturally embraces diverse love stories that conclude on a joyous note.

“Shakespeare is the gold standard of theater—his work has set the foundation for everything that follows,” said MCC Center for Theater Director Les Rorick.  “What makes Shaina Taub’s adaptation of As You Like It so remarkable is how it builds upon an already timeless comedy, infusing it with fresh energy, dynamic music, and a modern sensibility while staying true to the heart of the original.”

The story follows Rosalind and Orlando as they are forced from their homes and seek refuge in the Forest of Arden. There, amidst the towering trees and open skies, they discover a community that welcomes all and offers the freedom to be their authentic selves. As mistaken identities unravel and love flourishes in unexpected ways, the play embrace’s themes of acceptance, joy, and belonging.
