Families Invited to Free ‘STEAM Along the Lakeshore’ Event

Tuesday, April 22, 2025

“STEAM Along the Lakeshore,” a free, family-friendly event designed to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) learning in the Muskegon community will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at various downtown Muskegon venues, including Hackley Park, Hackley Public Library, the Lakeshore Fab Lab at Muskegon Community College’s Sturrus Technology Center, Muskegon Museum of Art, and the Muskegon Museum of History and Science.

The day of hands-on, interactive activities will provide opportunities for participants of all ages to engage with STEAM concepts in creative and fun ways. Guests can explore different exhibits, demonstrations, and workshops at each of the event locations, all designed to spark curiosity and inspire a passion for STEAM subjects. The event will feature new exhibits from the AGRI Business Talent Council including the Critter Barn and agriculture related programs from the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate the 5th anniversary of STEAM Along the Lakeshore,” said Dan Rinsema-Sybenga, MCC’s Dean of Academic Affairs. “Each year, this event has grown not only in size but in its ability to connect the community to exciting STEAM career opportunities. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how many children and families are inspired to pursue careers in these fields. STEAM careers offer endless possibilities for innovation and success, and our event plays a key role in fostering that interest for future generations.”

The first 750 student participants will receive a free Mr. Micro STEAM kit, a commemorative event t-shirt, and a passport for collecting stamps at each venue. Completed passports can be exchanged for raffle prizes and gifts provided by generous event sponsors.

Activities at the event will kick off simultaneously at all locations at 10:00 a.m., with STEAM kits and passports available for pick-up at Hackley Park.

Sponsors for the event include the generous support of the Howmet Aerospace Foundation, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, MiSTEM Network, The Mart Dock, West Michigan Works!, Best Financial Credit Union, Grand Valley State University’s Regional Math and Science Center, the AGRI Business Talent Council-West Michigan, Salon 297, the Hines Corporation, Grand Valley State University’s CLAS Center for Experiential Learning, and WEBB.
