Community Invited to Make Music at Local College

Muskegon Community College (MCC) is proud to announce an exciting array of music classes available to the local community through its Continuing Education department. These classes are open to everyone, regardless of MCC enrollment status, offering a unique opportunity for individuals to engage with and contribute to the vibrant musical life of the Lakeshore community.
“At Muskegon Community College, we are proud to provide various ways for individuals to participate outside of earning a degree,” said Dr. Stephanie Briggs, Associate Dean of Workforce and Talent Development. “Our music classes are an ideal venue for local musicians and talent to display their skills while bringing pride to the Lakeshore Community.”
The following music classes will be offered:
1. College Singers – Fall 2024/Winter 2025
This performance ensemble is designed for students and community members with previous musical experience. Auditions will be held during the first-class session to ensure the best fit between participants and the ensemble. High standards of musical performance are upheld, with multiple performances scheduled throughout the year for diverse audiences.
2. Wind Ensemble – Fall 2024
The advanced-level Wind Ensemble will perform a range of traditional to contemporary wind-band literature. The focus will be on rehearsal and performance, with biweekly rehearsals and two to four performances per semester both on and off-campus.
3. Jazz Ensemble – Fall 2024
Dedicated to enhancing knowledge of jazz literature and improvisation skills, this ensemble will tackle both traditional and contemporary big-band jazz repertoire. Participants will engage in biweekly rehearsals and perform two to four times per semester at various locations.
