Veteran Students

Now is the time to complete a “Request for V.A. Certification” online for the winter semester. Remember every semester you wish to draw V.A. educational benefits this form must be filled out.  Starting winter 2009 this form can now be filled out electronically from Muskegon Community College website.

You can click on current or future students and under the veteran link you will find the card.  Submit this no later then December 1, 2008 if you are looking for advanced payment.

Muskegon Community College's Veterans Office would like to take this moment to thank all who have put their lives on the line for our freedom. The Veterans Office is here to service all veterans, veteran dependents/survivors, and Reserve/National Guard personnel.  There are several different educational benefits that may fit the needs of prospective students as well as our current students.  For additional information, stop by the Veterans Office or contact the coordinator at 231.777.0236.

 The Veterans Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on a walk-in basis in room 106.  

 BEFORE YOUR FIRST VISIT 

Complete the necessary V.A. forms online, print the form out and bring it with you on your first visit.
 
Complete a “Request for V.A. Certification” online for every semester you wish to draw V.A. educational benefits. We recommend doing this in June for the following fall, October for winter, and March for the following summer.
 
Need an updated driver’s license or a valid pictured ID.
 
A copy of your DD214.

     NEW STUDENT "THINGS TO DO"

As a "new" student with Muskegon Community College, there are a number of things that need to be completed.  Below are the steps needed to be taken to make your time at MCC a successful and enjoyable one.

Apply for Admission to MCC.  Admission applications are done online and within 72 hours you will be assigned a student number.
 
Submit an official final high school or GED transcript to the Enrollment Services Center in room 108. 
 
If you have attended other colleges, request official transcripts be sent from their Records Office(s) to Muskegon Community College, ATT: Transfer Evaluation, 221 South Quarterline Road, Muskegon MI 49442.
 
You may also want to get a copy of your military transcript to find out if you have some military expereince that can translate into college credits.  This transcript can be submitted to the Records and Registration Office to be evaluated for possible credits you could receive.  If you have questions, please call 231.777.0204 or mail it to the address provided above.
 
Apply for financial aid by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Worksheets to help you prepare to do the FAFSA are available in the Financial Aid Office (room106) or you can print them at the FAFSA Website.
 
Make an appointment with Testing Services, room 134 or call 231.777.0394.
 
See a MCC counselor to select your courses.  Make the appointment in room 101 or call 231.777.0362.
 
Attend freshman orientation.  Make the appointment in room 108 or call 231.777.0454 for available days and times.
 
You may register for classes online through your Web Advisor.  If you need help registering, the Student Services Center staff will be glad to assist you.  REMEMBER: Register only for classes required to satisfy the program stated on your V.A. application.
