Astronomy CoursesGeneral Astronomy (ASTR 101) This course is a broad, generally non-mathematical, survey of the science of astronomy. Topics include: historical astronomy, the mechanics and clockwork of the night sky, astronomical instruments, the solar system, stellar evolution, the Milky Way, galaxies and theories about the origin and evolution of the universe. Although no formal laboratory is scheduled, there will be opportunities for observation of astronomical objects with portable and observatory telescopes.
