TUTORIAL SERVICES
GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS

Important - You must read and make a copy of these guidelines for your personal reference.

1. Procedures For Obtaining a Tutor

Any student having difficulties with a college course may request the services of a tutor by applying at the Tutoring Center located in  Room 401 or by submitting a request online. ( form is below)

A. Free tutoring, when approved, may be provided for either 1 or 2 hours per week with the following qualifications:

  1. Student must be enrolled in the course in which tutoring is requested and must be attending all classes.
  2. A full-time student enrolled in 12 credit hours or more may receive two hours per week.
  3. A part-time student enrolled in less than 12 credit hours may receive one hour per week.

B. You must complete the request form and submit it to the Tutoring Supervisor. Include the exact name and number of the course in    which you wish to be tutored and the name of the instructor.

C. An assigned tutor in the subject you requested will contact you by email or phone as soon as possible. If you have waited more than a week for a tutor, please contact the Tutoring Supervisor for assistance.

D. All veterans requesting more than the approved hours of tutoring or requesting individualized tutoring should discuss the situation with the Tutoring Supervisor.

E. If you have not been contacted by a tutor, it may be for the following reasons:

  • The tutor in that subject area cannot take on another assignment.
  • There is not a tutor for the subject in which tutoring was requested. 

2. Tutoring Sessions

You must be willing to be tutored at least once a week for a period of at least four weeks. If you require less time than this, please consult your instructor.

A. The tutor will arrange with you for the first tutoring session in the College Success Center.

B. Meet with your tutor on time. Come fully equipped with materials and textbook for all tutoring sessions. A tutor can help a student who:

  1. Attends class regularly.
  2. Reads and prepares assigned chapters.
  3. Keeps up with written assignments.
  4. Prepares for a test weeks in advance.
  5. Has a true desire to overcome the difficulties of his/her course work.

C. Tutoring mailboxes are provided for each tutor in C.S. Center. If you cannot meet your tutor at the appointed time, phone him/her or the Tutoring Supervisor (777-0393), or put a message in the tutor's mailbox.

D. If you miss two sessions with your tutor without notification, you will be dropped from the program.

3. Termination

A. Should you decide to drop this class, inform your tutor immediately.

B. If you feel that you are able to continue on your own after four sessions, please inform your tutor.

C. If your tutor feels you are ready to work alone, the sessions may be terminated.

D. Termination should be determined by mutual agreement between you and your tutor.

4. Final Report

Each student will fill out a questionnaire at the final session to evaluate the tutoring experience and turn in the questionnaire to the Tutoring Center when completed.
