Exchange/Study Abroad Programs

Germany - Summer Session May 24 - June 1, 2008

MCC students and faculty can participate in the exchange program with Kaufmannische Schule, a technical college in Stuttgart, Germany. Spend nine days in Germany with host families and visit various businesses and historical sites. The itinerary this year will include visiting German companies, such as the Porsche Plant and the Ritter Sports Company in Stuttgart, hiking in the Alps, and dining in medieval castles. Also, each student will give a five-minute presentation on some aspect of Michigan culture.

THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 20, 2007

Student Requirements:

  • Successfully completed 15 credit-hour college courses with a minimum 2-point grade-point average.
  • Completed student application by December.
  • Personal interview with the interview committee.
  • Financial ability to pay roundtrip airfare and personal expenses in Germany.
  • Possession of a valid United States passport.
  • Signed contract if chosen for program.
  • Commitment to spend time in group meetings and possible instruction prior to departing on trip.
  • Commitment to share your experiences if requested with Board of Trustees, classroom members, and/or prospective exchange students for the following year.
  • Enrollment in ICS 101 - GER course for one-credit.

IRELAND 

Trips to Ireland include the study of the Irish people, their landscape, music, legends and myths, poetry, philosophy, and their belief system. Students will travel on field trips to view archeological and historical sites, as well as Ireland’s inspiring natural beauty. The Burren College of Art will provide lecture facilities, studio space and darkroom facilities for class sessions. For 2007: Visit the Burren College of Art May 2008, with students from Kalamazoo Community College. Set in the grounds of a 16th century castle in the stunning Burren landscape on Ireland's Atlantic coast, this exchange program offers you a unique opportunity for your creative development.
