MCC Commencement
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE COMMENCEMENT...
Graduation Application: Students planning to participate in the Commencement ceremony will need to complete and turn in an Application for Graduation by March 1, 2010 to determine if the requirements have been met. Any students who have completed or will complete their degree requirements by the Summer session with a least a 2.00 G.P.A. are invited to participate in the commencement activities.
Participation Card: If you are planning to participate in Commencement 2010, you are required to submit the Participation Card to Room 100L by March 10, 2010. You may complete the card attached to the postcard you will receive or you can print the Participation Card by clicking on the link.
Date and Time: Friday, April 23, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts, 424 W. Western Avenue - Downtown Muskegon
Caps and Gown Orders: Purchase your cap and gown March 8, 9, & 10, 2010 at the MCC Barnes & Noble Bookstore. This includes your cap, gown, tassel, invitations and diploma cover. (Diploma covers are given at Commencement.)
Attire: You must have a cap and gown to participate in Commencement. Gentlemen should wear dark pants, a light colored dress shirt, and dark socks and shoes. Ladies should wear a dress or skirt shorter than the gown and dark shoes. You will be walking up and down stairs, so choose your shoes accordingly. Please no jeans, athletic shoes, or sandals.
Invitations: Ten invitations for you to send to family and friends are included with the cap and gown.
Diplomas: The College will mail all diplomas approximately 8 weeks after the end of the semester.

Rehearsal: Graduates are to report to the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts for rehearsal on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Honor cords will be distributed and important procedures will be reviewed.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THE EVENING OF COMMENCEMENT...
Graduate Check-In Instructions: Graduates are to report to the Cannon Gallery, upstairs in the Hilt Building next to the Frauenthal Center by 6:30 PM. Bring only your cap, gown, and tassel - leave all personal belongings (coat, purse, cameras, etc.) with your guests. Upon check-in, you will be requested to line up in alphabetical order and you will be given a card indicating your name, degree, and honors status if applicable.
Honor Cords: Honors status during the ceremony is based upon your overall grade point average at the time that the card bearing your name and degree is printed. Students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher at that time will be given honor cords at rehearsal.
Tassels: During the ceremony, students wear the tassel over the right eye and when instructed by President Dale Nesbary, place the tassel over your left eye.
Guests: Ushers will begin seating guests at 6:30 PM. Seating is on an open seating basis. Please ask your guests to honor reserved seating.
Wheelchair Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible seating is limited. To reserve wheelchair accessible seating, please call the Frauenthal Box Office at 231.727.8001.
Sign Language: A sign language interpreter will be on stage.
Photos: All seating at the Frauenthal Center allows for a close view of the stage. As a courtesy to the other guests and as a safety precaution, we request that guests do not leave their seats to take pictures during the ceremony.

Reception: Graduates and guests are invited to enjoy a reception of light desserts and refreshments in the Western Avenue Lobby between the Hilt Building and the Frauenthal Theater immediately following the ceremony.
Ceremonial Etiquette: The College wants to ensure that Commencement is a dignified academic ceremony, enjoyed by both graduates and guests. Please refrain from yelling, shouting, or whistling until all graduates have been individually acknowledged on stage. Cell phones MUST be turned off during the ceremony.
