If you begin or end your enrollment in the middle of a month, you will only be paid for the portion of the month you were enrolled.  However, you can be paid across the break period between semesters if you are enrolled and eligible for a monthly benefits the previous semester and are enroled and eligible for benefits the following semesters, provided the break does not exceed 30 days.

You can request advance pay any time you have a break (will not be enrolled) for more than 30 days.  Advance pay request must be submitted at least 30 days (we recommend 90 days) prior to the beginning of the semester.

During the regular receipt of benefits, payment is made AFTER the first day of the month for the month gone by (e.g. <after August 1 for July).  IN ADDITION, new G.I. Bill students must verify their enrollment at the end of every month to receive payment.  You can do this by calling 1-888-GI-BILL-1 or at www.gibill.va.gov.
