Jon Romkema, A.T.,C.

Jon Romkema has been the Certified Athletic Trainer at Muskegon Community College since 1989. He works for Mercy Health Partners Sports Medicine – Hackley Campus. The Grand Rapids native earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Valley State University in 1987 with a major in Physical Education and an emphasis in Athletic Training.

Prior to coming to Muskegon, Jon was the Head Athletic Trainer at Marian College in Wisconsin (1988 to 1989). He assists in the coordination of the community outreach program at Mercy Health Partners Sports Medicine – Hackley Campus. He has been the Assistant Athletic Director and an adjunct faculty member at Muskegon Community College since 1989.  Jon also served as an adjunct faculty member at Grand Valley State University from 1991 to 1993, and continues as an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) in the Athletic Training Education Program. In addition to his athletic training duties at Muskegon Community College, Jon concurrently served as the Certified Athletic Trainer for Muskegon Heights High School from 1991 to 1994 and North Muskegon High School from 1995 to 1997. He has assisted with athletic training at Muskegon High School since 1998, specifically with the football program, and was a member of the medical staff for the 2004 and 2006 State Championship Football teams.

Jon holds many certifications from the American Red Cross and has been an instructor with them since 1989. He has been instrumental in the development of the Sports Safety Training courses taught by the Mercy Health Partners Sports Medicine – Hackley Campus staff in conjunction the Muskegon American Red Cross Chapter. Jon is a board member of the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society where he is chair of the fundraising committee.
