Dear ANTH103 Students,
Please Note: I will be sending out a syllabus and orientation materials to all registered students by 8/19/2008, employing the student's MCC email account. There is no formal orientation session for this course. However, the orientation document and syllabus will provide all information that will be necessary for you to get started in the course. The class will be organized into weekly units. I live in Lansing and will not be holding in-person office hours for ANTH103. However, I am on my computer most days all day long and am happy to make a phone appointment to talk through any troubles you might experience. Similarly, if you are having technical troubles with Blackboard, please call the 24 hour helpdesk at 866.718.5170. In addition to me sending you the syllabus and orientation document before the start of the semester, all other course documents will be posted in the Blackboard system.
If you would like to purchase your books for this course prior to 8/19/2008, they are listed below:
-
Kottak, Conrad Philip and Kathryn A. Kozaitis. On Being Different. 3rd ed. New York: McGraw-Hill, 2008.
-
Kaufman, Moises. The Laramie Project. New York: Vintage, 2001.
-
Yezierska, Anzia. Bread Givers. New York: Persea, 2003.
Also, the course page in Blackboard will not be open for student use until the first day of the semester. I realize that many of you are “eager beavers,” and wish to get a head start on the course work. What I recommend is that you get the textbooks and read the first two chapters of On Being Different. This should keep you busy until the beginning of the fall semester. If you have any questions, please feel free to send them to me at molly.frendo@muskegoncc.edu or frendo@msu.edu. Thank you for your cooperation; your participation in the course is appreciated. I look forward to working with you more closely as the semester begins!
Sincerely,
Molly E. Frendo
