How to Find a Student Employee Job

Congratulations, you have been awarded work-study for MCC’s 2009-2010 academic year. An award of work-study does not guarantee a job to earn the award.  Students are encouraged to go to the departments on campus and seek out employment themselves.  Keep in mind that you must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled in NO less than 6 credits per semester.

Departments who hire student employees

Look at the list provided below and pick out a couple of departments that you are interested in working.  The open jobs are blue.  All others are closed.    

To make sure that you have work study money, please stop by Financial Aid office in room 106.  This needs to be completed prior to looking for any position listed below.  If you received an award letter, please

Requirements:  MS Office including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; must know MS Outlook; must be proficient in MS Word, and must be dependable and have a sense of creativeness.
Position Description: Duties include clerical, receptionist, budget and data correlation and retrieval.  Perform secretarial and coordinating duties for the Academic Affairs/CE office.  Provide the highest level of customer service to all walk-in customers or phone customers.  Use telephone etiquette at all times.  Must practice discretion at all times and use professionalism when dealing with any customer (internal or external).

Positiona Description: Qualifications needed are Excel, Word, ability to type and file, and taking accounting classes.  Preferred skills: Bookkeeping, Microsoft Excel & Word, and clerical/general office skills.  Will be answering phones, work with Excel spreadsheets, Word, general office work, balance out cash, do reports, and data entry.  Must be trustworthy as student will deal with other student information.  Will work around student's schedule - office open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Position Description: Customer/public services, desk duties, check in and out materials, issue and replace library cards, collect fine payments, answer and direct phone calls, shelve and shelf read library materials, and other duties as assigned.
 
Library - Technical Support - Connie Holmberg
Position Description: Unpack boxes of new books received, help in the processing procedure of them. Some computer work involved with the labeling of books.  Covering of some paperback books with a plastic-vinyl type cover.  Being good with detail is important.  10 hours per week (During the day, 2 or 2-1/2 hours a day with one day off).

Position Description: Deliver mail, coverage of office, answer phones and take messages, make copies, and other duties as assigned.

Position Description: Custodial work such as trash, clening restrooms and windows, vacuum and mop floors, and other duties as assigned.

Nursing Department - Room 333 - Supervisor(s): Jodie Matuz
Position Description: Must be a self-starter and quick-learner as well as being accurate, dependable, reliable, and honest.  Good customer service skills are a must!  Duties will include (but are not limited to) general office/reception tasks, monitoring and upkeep of the labs, and assisting students as needed.  Hours can be very flexible to coordinate with student schedule - generally about 10 hours per week.  Because of confidentiality issues, work study students cannot be enrolled in, on the waiting list for, or otherwise interested in pursuing classes related to the MCC Nursing Program.
 
Physics Department - Room 143-2 - Supervisor(s): Toby Moleski
Position Description: Setup and break down lab for physics and physical science classes, maintain neatness of Room 133, aid in ordering supplies, aid in special projects/create new equipment, and other duties as assigned.
 
Records/Registration - 100-L - Supervisor(s): Donna Warner/Patti D'Avignon
Position Description: Confidentiality a huge MUST.  Order transcripts, answer transcript phone and take messages, assist students at front window with questions regarding transcripts,lots of filing, assisting Records personnel as needed, and other duties as assigned.
