MCC Art Instructors Win Awards in Statewide Competitive Art ExhibitionsMonday, November 02, 2009
Adjunct Muskegon Community College Art Instructor Patricia Opel and full-time MCC Art Instructor Timothy Norris have received awards in the 28th annual Michigan Artists Competition at the Art Center of Battle Creek. Opel won the Artistic Excellence Award for her mixed-media painting “Praying to the Corn Goddess” and Norris received a Judge’s Special Recognition Award for his charcoal drawing “Bois Blanc Kiln.” The Michigan Artists Competition features “fifty-two pieces of the best of what Michigan artists create,” according to a statement issued by the Art Center of Battle Creek. The show’s juror was Darwin Davis, retired Executive Director of the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph. The exhibit ran from October 4-24. Norris also received a Merit Award for his mixed-media painting “Blake’s Brain” in the 49th annual Greater Michigan Exhibition at the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art in Midland. The Greater Michigan Exhibition runs through 3 January 2010. Norris will also have a major solo show of drawings and paintings at the Dow Museum this summer entitled “Fire and Ashes.” |
