In the third grade the 'theater bug' bit Sheila, when she played the princess in The Princess that Couldn't Laugh, and she didn't! Since that time she has performed in over 70 plays and musicals. Most recently as a dog in Muskegon Civic Theater's production of 'Sylvia' (She is very proud of that one!). She has also been involved back stage as a director, designer and choreographer. Sheila has twenty years of experience directing plays and musicals. Here at MCC she has directed "Escanaba In Da Moonlight", "Krapp's Last Tape", "Long Day's Journey Into Night", "The Curate Shakespeare" and "The Laramie Project", "Working" and "Dancing At Lughnasa". In 2002 she had the honor of directing Muskegon's first production of "The Vagina Monologues". Sheila moved to Muskegon in 1999 with husband Kirk and children, Chris & Katie. She received her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and her Masters degree from Indiana State University, in both Theater and Communications. She has over 20 years of experience as a theater program director and college instructor. She has also served as a Christian Education director, a radio talk show co-host (co-hosted with husband Kirk), a publicity director and college admissions counselor. Outside the theater world she has been a volunteer for the United Way, the National Arthritis Foundation, the Vigo County Historical Society, Goodwill Industries, Union Hospital and Every Women's Place. While living in Terre Haute, Indiana she and husband Kirk received the city's award for outstanding support of the Arts. She is very proud of that award and plans to give outstanding support to the arts here in the Muskegon community as she serves as the Coordinator of the Muskegon Area Arts & Humanities Festival. |
